Double Dipping

Um – I actually hate double dippers. Well.. party scene double dippers. (I won’t lie, I double, triple, quadruple dip in my own containers.. but that doesn’t count).

But seriously — at a party – please refrain from taking a nice big glop of dip onto your veggie, cracker, chip.. taking a bite (or even worse, LICKING IT OFF) … and then going back for seconds. Kthanks.

But that is not the type of double dipping I am talking about today. Nahh.

We are going to blog double dip – with a Supermarket Sunday .. and a Weekly Workout Wrap up.. ALL ROLLED INTO ONE.

And.. seriously… other then those two things, I’ve got nothing for ya. I have done nothing all day.. because like I mentioned earlier today, I FEEL LIKE POOP (still)! I’ve pretty much been laying around feeling miserable, wishing, hoping, praying for my energy and vibrance to return to me 😉

For the second week in a row, Justin and I remained under $100 for our main grocery trip!!  That usually does not happen – but it is always feels kind of nice when it does.

As far as budgeting for groceries – we have kind of a lax budget – we aim to spend around $115 a week – but it is not the end of the world if we spend $130 .. or more!  We saved $20 on our bill today – LOVE ME SOME SAVINGS!

Here are the goods:

Baby carrots (x2); sugar snap peas, red pepper (x2); yellow pepper; onion;zucchini; cilantro; thyme  *Justin pronounced thyme with the th sound.. just like Allen pronounced Thailand.. with the th sound in Hangover 2….

Gala apples; HUMUNGOUS grapefruits; bananas

Vanilla unsweetened Almond Breeze; Steamfresh frozen veggie; family size bag of mixed frozen berries (um.. originally $10.. we got it for $4…); eggs; strawberry Orbit; deli meat (turkey)

Mozzarella shredded cheese, chocolate pudding, yogurt, honey wheat pretzel twists, chick peas, pirates booty, parmesan gold fish, tomato sauce

The Justin Only Foods: Fritos; Cheddar Goldfish; Stovetop; Gravy; Poptarts; Ballpark Beef Franks; Sausage; Hamburger Rolls

Not pictured: Toothpaste, dark chocolate chips, hard candies

We bought a lot of snacky-stuff this week!

Weekly-Work Out Wrap Up

  • Monday: 1 mile incline walk on treadmill; 60 min step class; abs
  • Tuesday: 4 mile run
  • Wednesday: 1.25 mile run; Body Works class
  • Thursday: 5 mile run
  • Friday: 3 mile walk
  • Saturday: 9 mile run
  • Sunday: REST! 100%!

How I am Feeling:

Well – as I mentioned both yesterday and this morning, I am feeling pretty lousy TODAY! But – the rest of the week, I was feeling great! The rain has stopped and I can get outside when I want to get outside.. and run, run, run.  After my failed fueling post-run yesterday, I’ve been left to feel pretty beat down, but I know that is something that can be fixed easily.

So – now that the weather has finally brightened up, I am totally having a hard time cross training.. strength training.. and doing cardio OTHER then running. (Elliptical, stair master).  I have the same debate in my head.. every afternoon on my drive home from work.. Gym.. or run. Run wins.. when it is nice out.  I really don’t want running to be my only form of cardio.

What I’d Like to See Next Week:

Yes, I know I didn’t refelct on last weeks goals.. because there WAS NO LAST WEEK!  I am kind of back tracking to goals that I set earlier in this series, because it seems as if I have lost sight of them.. and am on  a run only function!  My main goal is to mix my workouts up again!

  • Strength Train 3x
  • Interval Training Run to help build speed
  • One day of Cardio other then running
To help with this – I made a plan for my workouts for the week.  I am giving this a try – but not sure how much I will stick to it.. or if it will be something I will do again.  I totoally love the individual plans for weight training that I bring with my to the gym daily – but am not sure how I feel about this. Time will tell!

I am SO excited for two things.. ONE  – The PREMIER OF THE NEXT FOOD NETWORK STAR~ 🙂 🙂


For now, I am off to do some more of nothing. Justin is even cooking dinner tonight! What a guy!

So – Foodwise – how do you budget for groceries – how tight to do stick to that budget?

Do you have a weekly training plan? Do you stick to it?  Find it hard to go to the gym to do certain things – when all you want to do is be outside? Maybe I should buy some more weights so I can strength train outdoors too!


Manual Labor

Hey, hey, hey! Hope you are enjoying your Sunday!! I have been a busy busy  bee today! First off, I slept until 7am today! That is really late for me!

Not to mention.. I was in bed last night at like 10!  I was exhausted from yesterday’s event.. Which reminds me..

THANK YOU for all of your kind words!  You are making the event feel even more successful then it already was (if that is even possible!)

Justin was pretty pooped last night too – so we decided to finish watching “The Switch” after grubbin on some Chinese food.  Is say FINISH watching.. because I could not make it through the whole movie on Friday night. I was too tired.

DAMN! I am just the SOCIAL BUTTERFLY lately.. huh?  Well.. I really enjoyed this movie. It says a lot for me to enjoy a movie at home.  I totally have trouble focusing on movies.. when I have so many other things that can grab my attention at home.. i.e., THIS COMPUTER… and YOUR BLOGS. But I vowed to let the computer BE last night.. and watched the movie.

I was really pulling for Bateman to tell Aniston about “the switch” … which is really saying something.. I was emotionally involved in a movie I was viewing from my own home!

After waking up, I decided to give Carrie’s oats a go.. and was very satisfied:

  • 1/2 cup oat bran
  • 2.5 cups water
  • scoop sunwarrior
  • dash of vanilla (didn’t have almond extract)
  • topped with cinnamon, PB and fresh strawberries

It was GOOD!  The texture was so different then my regular oats – and it was definitely a nice change.  I will most certainly be throwing this in the mix!  Has anyone ever tried overnight oats using oat bran?  Overnights are really all my schedule allows for during the week!

Justin and I set off on our weekly shopping excursion.. again saving 25$ on our 125$ bill.  $100 bucks for the week.. not to shabby! I totally forgot to picture my goods before putting them away.. and while I LOVE you all dearly.. I was not about the remove everything from their homes.  Instead, here is a look inside my fridge:

Most stocked it has EVER been. Justin just said so! 🙂

I hit up the gym for an easy 2.6 mile run and an hour of BOOT CAMP!  We had a hard core class today.  Everything focused on the core.. which was fabulous.  I have totally been slacking in the core workout area.. so I loved every second of the BURN!

Almost bathing suit season!

All of this.. my friends.. was done before noon!  How about that for productivity!

Then.. came the frustrations of the afternoon!  Remember how I said I would be at Walmart looking for a bistro set when the world ended yesterday?!

Well.. 1 – I was at Walmart at 6pm yesterday. The world did not end.

And 2 – We got a Bistro set. For $98. YES, PLEASE.

Well, today as a different story.. no more yes, pleases.  A whole lot of &*#@^!#(*$%^#&.  I am the assembler of our duo.  I like to take control of these scenarios.. and refuse any help.

I wish I had seen this first…

Now – I DID look at the instructions. Well.. the pictures anyway.  I mean.. in my defense, I am used to putting together IKEA furniture.. where there ARE no words.. so I really didn’t think words would be that important.

Anyway… who tells you to assemble something by NOT screwing in the bolts all the way. Well, once Justin finally pointed out that piece of info to me.. after I declared we would need to take it back because there was NO possible way it would go together..and after a lot of tightening, then loosening, then retightening.. reloosening.. and the final tightening of screws… we finally had our bistro set:

Justin already spent some time reading a magazine out there.. but it is too chilly for me today.  I am totally looking forward to sitting out there.. and eating, reading… blogging… as it warms up! 🙂

Weekly Work-Out Wrap-Up!

  • Monday: 2.5 miles walk/run, 60 minute step class
  • Tuesday: REST.. COMPLETE REST!
  • Wednesday: 15 min elliptical; 60 minute strength training class
  • Thursday: 5.91 mile run – 50 minutes
  • Friday: YOGA! 60 min.
  • Saturday: 2mile run at event, 4 mile walk
  • Sunday: 2.5 mi jog; 60 min boot camp conditioning camp

Update for  Amanda’s 100 Miles in May –

Since May 1st – I have walked/ran a total of: 106 miles..(Remember this also includes an approximation of my daily mileage at work.. and I have a job that keeps my on my feet and moving for most of the day) So – I have made my 100 miles in May goal.. but still plan on hoofin’ it for the rest of the month.. year… my life 😉

How I felt this week:

I gave my body rest. I tried to keep going strong.. and went to step class on Monday – and I was utterly exhausted physically.  I knew a rest day was really needed. Taking rest days is the hardest thing for me.  I mean.. in reality.. I KNOW that taking rest days is the BEST thing for my body -and that not working out for ONE day .. or TWO days.. will do nothing to take away from my healthy lifestyle. In fact.. it is more likely to benefit it!  Still, corresponding those thoughts with my actions.. is definitely difficult!

I’ve definitely been having some body image/confidence issues this week as well. I am not quite sure where they are coming from – but I am working to get past the negative thoughts and surround myself with positivity.

How do you deal with issues of body confidence and self-image?  If you are one of the lucky woman who never has to face these issues – I look up to you.. and hope to someday find that place.

I totally jinxed myself..

So – remember on Thursday.. when I had to take my contacts out in the middle of my kickboxing class.. because I had been wearing this single pair for SO long.. that they were causing excruciating pain to the ball of eye?

And I stored them on my iPod.. so I could take a picture of them.. for you..

Well.. I had one more pair left… so I am thinking.. another 2 months worth of wear before I have to order a new boxes. Oh.. yes. I live on the edge. Who needs back ups.. I will order when these ones start hurting.

Apparently, the contact-masters do not like the methods of how I (over)wear my contacts. They decided they wanted to issue a little payback, I suppose.

Allow me to further explain.

As I am on my way out the door to hit up a boot camp conditioning camp at the gym.. I stop to put in my contacts. You know.. the last pair. No one likes a girl who can’t see in class.

Right contact.. check.

Left contact.. OW.

I remove. And examine further. Low and behold.. I see a nice little TEAR on the side.

And there goes my last left contact.

Even with the tear.. I wore it to class. Whatever. I can deal.

Class today.. was intense.  I always like to do my own cardio before any class I take. So I warmed up for 30 minutes on the treadmill.. completing 2.85 miles of walking/running…

And then had 60 minutes of hard core boot camp. Today, we did a lot of cardio moves..and a variety of plank and ab moves, with various squats and lunges thrown in there as well. Let’s take a look at how hard I worked.. aka the sweat that engulfed my being..


SWEAT MONSTER.  Justin would not come within 6 feet of me. (A number he came up with all on his own..)

I came home… SHOWERED (and wondered where the eff all my hair went.. I am going to need to adjust the amount of shampoo I use… BIG TIME..) and then enjoyed my favorite weekend lunch:

Turkey, mustard, cherry tomatoes, spinach, mozz

Now.. let’s check out how my workouts were this week.. here we go with the Weekly-Workout-Wrap-up :

  • Monday: 15 min stair mill, 15 min treadmill (1.5 mi); 45 min back strength training
  • Tuesday: 45 minutes yoga
  • Wednesday: 30 min interval training on TM (3.8 mi); 30 min strength/plyo
  • Thursday: 18 min treadmill warm up (2mi);  60 min cardio kickboxing class
  • Friday: 40 min interval training (5.07 mi)
  • Saturday: 5 mi run, mucho lunges
  • Sunday: 2.8 mi jog; 60 min boot camp conditioning camp

Total Miles Ran: 20.17

Update for  Amanda’s 100 Miles in May

How I felt this week:

Um. Exhausted. I did 2 early morning gym sessions this week.. which meant 4:40 wake up calls. My body is not lovin it. With early bird genes in my system.. I am up at the crack of dawn on weekends too – regardless of how late/early I get to bed. The silly fire alarm this morning.. did not help my cause either.  Keep reading to see how I plan to address this problem.

But even with the exhaustion setting in- I am definitely feeling my strength returning with a vengeance.  My muscles are looking more defined…and I feel more toned.

Last weeks goal check-up:

  • Write down my plans for each workout. I definitely did a pretty good job at this.. I wrote down my I could check them off as I went.. and also wrote down the strength training
  • Hydrate More.  I am still slacking here.  I did a better job – and found myself actually filling up my water bottle at work. (Usually I sip on one bottle through the day.. and then just refill at the gym).  I drank too much coffee though.. numerous days with more then one cup. Need to cut back..
  • Do an interval training run. Check. In fact.. DOUBLE CHECK. Granted.. it was the same interval set (one was just 10 min longer).. I completed bangin’ intervals on Wednesday and Friday morning.
  • YOGA! Check. Yoga completed at home on Tuesday night.. and a mini sesh with my students on Thursday!

What I would like to see next week:

  • More of the same.. with one extra thing.. REST. I haven’t taken a complete day off.. (no yoga..nothing) in a long time. I don’t even want to tell you how long. In fact.. I don’t even know how long.. I am afraid to actually calculate it.  So… my main goal for this week.. is having one complete day of rest.  I am REALLY bad at this. FYI. But I know it is necessary for my body.
